Born on the banks of the Nolichucky River, near modern-day Limestone, David Crockett is, perhaps, the original Tennessee outdoorsman. Known for his ability with a gun and a hatchet, Davy received little formal education. In fact, after just four days at school, he was involved in a fight and ran away to avoid the "licking" he knew he'd receive at home. Luckily, Davy didn't stay away, and he grew up to become an important figure in Tennessee history. He commanded a battalion in the Creek Indian War; served in the Tennessee legislature from 1821-1822 and 1823-1824; and was a member of the 20th, 21st and 23rd Congress. Though he accomplished much in life, his death at the Alamo elevated him to the level of folk hero. Some will always see him as a backwoods bear killer, but Davy Crockett was an intelligent and courageous man who symbolizes the American frontier. His tombstone reads: "Davy Crockett, Pioneer, Patriot, Soldier, Trapper, Explorer, State Legislator, Congressman, Martyred at the Alamo, 1786-1836."

Question: What was the name of Davy Crockett's favorite rifle?

Answer: The people of Tennessee gave Davy a rifle he named "Betsy". Unfortunately, Betsy was lost at the Alamo. However a second rifle, "Old Betsy," is on display at the Alamo Chapel in San Antonio, Texas.
